Physical therapy is a part of the overall team of medical providers that you may be referred to after an injury, surgery, or maybe a longstanding painful condition, the cause of which you are unaware of at the time. We will work with your doctors and other healthcare professionals to get you back to you. Every treatment plan provided at our Physical Rehabilitation Center is individualized and specific to your injury and level of function. Led by Dr. Lori Chin, her team of rehabilitation professionals at Cumberland Physical Therapy & Rehab located in Somerset, KY will treat you with empathy and respect, and privacy.
While many people might be apprehensive of beginning a physical therapy program because they assume it means that it will involve a lot of pain, please know that this is not the case! While there may be some discomfort throughout your treatment, our goal of treatment is to minimize pain and eventually abolish it.
Your first session at our Physical Rehabilitation Center in Somerset, KY will consist of acquiring as much information about you and your diagnosis as possible. You may be taken through tests measuring your range of motion and strength of the affected area. More involved tests and measures involving your current level of functional abilities may also be assessed so that we are able to get to the root of the problem at hand. No amount of physical rehabilitation will help if at first an accurate diagnosis is not obtained first.
This is the key to recovery. Figuring out the source of the pain/condition allows us to tailor an exercise program that is specific to you.
After the initial session, exercises and pain-relieving modalities using thermal or electrical methods such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation may be used with the aim of helping your particular condition. These exercises will range from stretches, range of motion, to resistance training, gait training, and functional activities. Body mechanics, posture, and proper form will be closely monitored throughout the performance of these exercises. It is important to remember that rehabbing an injury is very different from general exercise training. The 'no pain, no gain' mentality does not apply in physical therapy. You will be gently progressed in your exercise routine dependent on your level of comfort and ability.
Whether you are recovering from surgery or attempting to rid your body of longstanding back or neck pain, the professionals at our Physical Rehabilitation Center, led by Dr. Chin and located in Somerset, KY will be there for you every step of the way. You do not need to be in pain or discomfort. Call us at (606) 679-2773 to make an appointment.
